About Activator
Activator is a product activation service that activates copies of a certain range of products. It also acts as a tool for users to be able to manage all of their activated copies in one place, in the Activator Dashboard.
Activation Workflow
- When you run a copy of a product managed by Activator, the copy will look at your computer information and generate a Hardware Serial Number (HSN) which is used to uniquely identify your computer without giving up sensitive computer identifiers.
- The copy will also prepare a Copy Serial Number (CSN) which uniquely identifies that copy and it's product.
- These identifiers are submitted to the global Activator server, which, if the request is successful, issues a license key. Do note that activation comes at no cost.
- Every 14 days or more, when run, your copy may dispatch a license key verification request to the Activator server to ensure that it's license key is still valid.
Why do I have an Activator account?
- Activator accounts are based on computers, or more specifically your HSN.
- If you've never activated an Activator-managed product, when you activate your first copy, Activator will create an account for you with your HSN.
- All of your activated copies on said computer will be associated to this Activator account automatically, as copies are linked based on HSN.
- You can opt to, of course, never even touch or login to your Activator account - Activator was meant to work seamlessly in the background. Activation is designed to be as non-intrusive as possible.
Why would I want an Activator account?
- With an Activator account, you can centrally manage all of your activated copies. You can view their information, de-activate their license key, be notified on new activations, and much more.
- If you enable security protections like a password or multi-factor authentication, security checks will be made in subsequent activation requests that are associated to your account. This protects your computer and account from malicious and unknown copy activations.
- If you have activated copies across multiple computers, you can carry out HSN aliasing to link secondary computers to a main one.
What is HSN aliasing?
- You can link secondary computers of yours (that also contain activated copies) to your main HSN.
- With HSN aliasing, you can have one main Activator account that also has HSNs of other computers linked.
- Copy activation, key verification, login and other requests to linked HSNs will automatically be re-directed by the system to your main HSN account.
- When doing HSN aliasing, all copy data from alias accounts will be transferred to yours. You will be able to see which alias a copy is linked to at all times.
- Do note that profile details and security protections of only the main account are preserved. Security checks during copy activation will also then be according to your main HSN account's profile.
